Blandy Group History

The Blandy Group: A Living Legacy

The Blandy family holds the distinction of being the sole founding dynasty of the Madeira wine trade to maintain continuous ownership and executive management of its original enterprise. The Group’s longevity is rooted in a legacy of strategic resilience; by executing counter-cyclical acquisitions during agricultural crises and leading industry consolidations during market downturns, the family ensured the brand’s survival while many of its contemporaries dissolved.

Presented below is a chronological account of the landmark events that define the history of the Blandy Group. This overview highlights the family’s enduring influence on Madeira’s economy and the strategic decisions that have secured the company’s resilience across two centuries
