The Blandy Family hosted the final bicentenary tasting at their wine lodge in the centre of Funchal on the 23rd of September 2011.
The tasting started with an introduction from the group’s Chairman, Michael Blandy, who spoke about the family’s future commitment to the company that started life on the island 200 years ago.

Francisco Albuquerque has anticipated all the joy of the upcoming celebrations, having been elected consecutively the best fortified wine oenologist in the world. He did not renew the title attributed by the International Wine Challenge in 2010, but saw his 1985 Blandy's Malmsey win the trophy for the best Madeira in competition, in the latest edition of this important London contest.

The tasting was presented by Michael Blandy (Chair), Chris Blandy (Director), Francisco Albuquerque (winemaker) and Richard Mayson (Port & Madeira specialist).
Richard Mayson summed the tasting up best, “I previously billed this as a ‘tasting of a lifetime’ and so it turned out. Never again will these rare Vintage Madeira wines be tasted together and it is likely that I will never see some of them again”
